East German Film Festival

As part of its 4th East German Summer Film Institute, SOLIDARITY! DEFA and Latin America, the DEFA Film Library at the University of Massachusetts Amherst presents a series of rare East German films about Latin America. All films are in German with simultaneous interpretation into English, except for The Ascent of the Chimborazo, which has English subtitles.

Films include: Augenzeuge newsreels; Three Letters (Drei Briefe); When You Think of Chile (Wenn du an Chile denkst); Song International (clips); Gladys Marìn; Venceremos solidaridad – We Will Triumph through Solidarity (clips); Strong Bonds Unite Us (Uns einen starke Bande) (clips); Song of the Rivers (Lied der Ströme); The Light on the Gallows (Das Licht auf dem Galgen); Osceola; The Ascent of the Chimborazo (Die Besteigung des Chimborazo); I Was, I Am, I Will Be (Ich war, ich bin, ich werde sein); Prelude 11 (Preludio 11); Tango Dream (Tango Traum); Isabel on the Stairs (Isabel auf der Treppe); and Blond Tango (Blonder Tango).

Directions & Parking

Stirn Auditorium is located in the Mead Art Museum, Room 115, at Amherst College. The Mead Art Museum is located off the east side of the main quadrangle on campus.
