We Need Your Help

Open Houses for accepted students will be held on Thursdays and Fridays in April (April 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18, 24 and 25). We are looking for current students to speak to prospective students and their parents about your experiences in the Stockbridge School.

New Students Orientation is schedule for Tuesday, July 1 at 6:30 p.m. Are you available to meet with students to speak about your experiences in the Stockbridge School?

73rd Livestock Classic – April 19 – Hadley Barn

Every year Animal Science/Pre-Vet Club organizes a show called Livestock Classic. Students present horses, cows, donkeys, goats, sheep, pigs, alpacas and llamas. There will be food and many activities. This event is open to the public.

Congratulations to the UMass Equestrian Team

Earlier this month, the UMass Equestrian Team clinched the Zone 1, Region 3 Championship for the first time in 12 years. Kudos to the team and best of luck at they move onto the zone championship in April, and hopefully to the national championship in May.

Seniors

Senior Recognition Dinner — Tuesday, May 13. 11th floor, Campus Center. Please RSVP by April 18th at http://www.umass.edu/stockbridge/dinner. Senior gifts (Carhartt jacket) will be distributed at the dinner. This event is only for Stockbridge graduates and faculty. There is no cost to attend. Seniors MUST come to 110 Stockbridge Hall to indicate desired size of the jacket. Deadline to sign up for the jacket is April 4th.

A few reminders: Rehearsal will be held on 9:00 AM on May 23. Caps and gowns will be available for pick-up at the Textbook Annex beginning May 5. Everyone must have a cap and gown to participate in the graduation ceremony.

Many of you still need to email Liz, with your preference on the printing of your name on the diploma. Please email her ASAP. Examples: John Smith, John J. Smith, John James Smith.

Dr. Baker will be contacting seniors who are missing graduation requirements. If you receive a letter, you are required to make an appointment to see Dr. Baker. Call her office at 545-1969 and set up a meeting. You must see Dr. Baker by April 11.

Seniors transferring into UMass Amherst for the fall:

You will receive an acceptance packet from the Admissions Office in April. In early May, you will receive a letter from the College of Natural Resources & the Environment instructing you to meet with a departmental advisor to discuss fall classes and to receive your RAC number. Be sure to meet with your advisor before you leave campus.

Freshmen

Fall 2008 registration begins on April 7. Check Spire for your enrollment appointment (the day and time to access the system) to register for classes. Also check if there are any holds that need to be cleared prior to registering for classes. Do not delay in registering for classes.

Equine Industries and Turfgrass Management freshmen cannot register for the fall semester until you see your advisor for a Registration Approval Code (RAC) number.

  • Dr. Ebdon will distribute the Turfgrass Management registration information and RAC codes on April 2 in the Turf Calculations class at 8:00AM. He will also discuss internship requirements.
  • Ms. Mente will distribute the Equine Industries registration information and RAC codes during the Handling Horses class.

Arboriculture, Fruit & Vegetable Crops, Horticulture and Landscape freshmen will be emailed registration materials in the next two weeks. Look for this information at your student email account and please register early. Do not wait until August to add classes since you may not be able to get into an over-enrolled class.

Student Leadership Committee - Are you interested in being on the NRE Student Leadership Committee. The committee works with Dean Baker with recruiting activities and fundraising events as well as other functions in the college. Download the application form. Get your application in now!
