A World of Research - University of Massachusetts Amherst

The Associate Director for International Research supports members of the faculty, departments, centers and institutes engaged in or initiating international research collaborations. Support can include access to information on existing collaborations, assistance with establishing new institutional or governmental affiliations, assistance with program and funding proposals, identification of potential funding sources, fiscal and organizational planning, management of large projects, negotiation of international research agreements, hosting visiting delegations, and publicizing international collaborations. The University of Massachusetts Amherst has established agreements of international collaboration with more than 100 institutions outside of the U.S. and has more than 90 featured student exchange programs. In the past seven fiscal years UMass Amherst has received external funding in support of more than 180 international research projects in 54 countries totaling more than $30 million distributed across 36 departments, centers and institutes. In fiscal year 2009 alone, 48 international projects received more than $6 million in external funding, nearly doubling the project figures for FY 08.
