  • USDA’s Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion (CNPP) http://www.usda.gov/cnpp/ Includes the Interactive Healthy Eating Index (IHEI), an online dietary and activity level assessment tool that provides a quick measure of a person's dietary quality and activity level.
  • Mayo Clinic www.mayoclinic.com Reliable health and nutrition information provided in easy-to-find categories.
  • Harvard School of Public Health http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource A science-based nutrition site that draws on the research of members of the HSPH Nutrition Department. It’s user-friendly, with a side-bar that breaks down food and nutrition into specific topics. One of the more useful parts of the site is a section about understanding the interplay of the mass media with scientific research in deciphering nutrition news in the popular media.
  • Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) http://www.cspinet.org This website, sponsored by the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), has three main goals: (1) to provide useful, objective information to the public and policymakers and to conduct research; (2) to represent citizen’s interests regarding food and health before regulatory, judicial, and legislative bodies; and (3) to ensure that science and technology are used for the public good. This is a great site for people interested in food and public policy. It includes current food safety and biotechnology updates and news releases, as well as nutritional tools such as a calorie counter. This is a great site for people interested in food and public policy. A monthly publication called “Nutrition Action Health Letter” is available for a subscription fee.
  • Ask the Dietitian http://www.dietitian.com Site is run by Joanne Larsen, MS, RD; she answers common nutrition-related questions sent in by the public.
