Class of 2009 Sets Forth
A crowd of 20,000 honored UMass Amherst’s Class of 2009 on Saturday, May 23. Approximately 4,250 graduates received bachelor’s degrees in more than 100 majors.

Chancellor Issues Commencement Health Advisory
As part of the ongoing campus response to the H1N1 (swine) flu outbreak, additional precautions will be taken during Commencement events.
Three to Receive Distinguished Achievement Awards; Alumnus Earl W. Stafford is Speaker
Stafford, an alumnus and Virginia businessman; Robert Barker Brack, an alumnus and businessman from Milford, and Aaron D. Spencer, founder, director and chairman emeritus of UNO Chicago Grill pizzerias, will be honored.
Jacke Hai Named Student Speaker
Hai, a dual major in journalism and philosophy, was recently named one of the UWIRE 100 honoring the best and brightest student journalists in the nation.
21st Century Leaders Announced
Thirteen members of the Class of 2009 will be honored for their strong leadership qualities, noteworthy original research, community service, the achievement of success by overcoming extraordinary personal circumstances, or public presentation through art, performance, or athletic ability.
