Perkins Cancellation and Discharge

You may be Eligible for Cancellation or Discharge of your Perkins Loan

A borrower may have all or part of his or her loan (including interest) canceled for engaging in certain qualifying public service or military service. The amount of your loan that would be cancelled if you qualified depends on different factors for example the length of service. A discharge means you do not have to pay your loan principal or interest. You may read more on the eligibility criteria in the Perkins Repayment Plans, Forbearance, Deferment, Cancellation, and Discharge [PDF] (a chapter in the Federal Student Aid Handbook).
